Job cuts inevitable at BBC if proposed cuts go ahead
According to recent proposals announced yesterday by the BBC, hundreds of workers will lose their job if planned spending cuts go ahead.
The corporation wants to reduce its website by 50% over the next two years, and scrap digital stations BBC 6 Music and the Asian Network. 6 Music is by far the best radio station in the UK at the moment – it supports new music and emerging bands by giving them a means for people to hear their work, and, in people like Jon Richardson and Adam and Joe, it also has some of the most entertaining presenters you’ll find anywhere.
There’s an online petition to save 6 Music – please take the time to sign if you’re a fan.

Theatre ticket vouchers – the ideal gift!
My friend gave me theatre ticket vouchers for my birthday last week, which are the ideal present for me. I do love going to the theatre, but I hardly ever get round to it due to my various other commitments. With these vouchers, I’ll definitely make the effort to find the time to squeeze in a play as soon as something I like the look of comes on at my local theatre.
People are sometimes surprised that I’m such a big fan of the arts given my passion for science, but I don’t think that the two interests are necessarily mutually exclusive. A lot of scientists are keen readers, film lovers and theatregoers – scientific minds are creative too, just in a different kind of way.

Cashmere knitwear – why is it so soft and warm?
Cashmere knitwear is famous throughout the world for its unmatched softness and natural warmth, but what is it what gives it these unique qualities?
Cashmere clothing is produced from cashmere fibres, which in turn come from the cashmere goat, which is found in Mongolia and parts of China. The goat’s natural habitat is very hot during the day, but extremely cold at night. So the goats need to keep warm at night time while still remaining cool in the hot afternoon sun.
Due to these harsh environmental pressures, the goat has evolved its unique coat, which consists of two layers – a thick outer coat of rough guard hairs and a soft inner coat of cashmere fibres. This gives it the flexibility to remain comfortable at both extremes of temperature.
