Deratisation in France – for peace of mind

I had rodent problems in my French holiday home, so I was advised to call the deratisation specialist. I found a telephone number in the local directory, and explained, using my best knowledge of the French language, that I needed to speak to a rat control expert. Thankfully, my explanation was just about adequate, and a man came to visit the very next day.

When he arrived, I was relieved to find out that he spoke very good English. In fact, he’d spent five years working in Essex when he first got involved in pest control. He laid several bait stations around the property, stressing the importance of keeping my young children well away from these particular areas.

And now, six weeks later, I’m delighted to report that the rats appear to have disappeared completely. My wife is particularly relieved, because she is absolutely terrified of rodents, and was dreading our next visit.

No cucarachas here any more

I have recently been on a business trip to Mexico, and I was warned by a colleague that the hotel had a problem with cucarachas. I asked him what he meant, but he just laughed and refused to elaborate. I was beginning to wonder whether the word was just the name of a particularly inept employee, but it turned out he was talking about cockroaches.

I have to admit, however, that the problem must have disappeared. I didn’t see one of them during the five days I stayed there, and I never heard any of my fellow guests talking about them either. On my last day, I finally decided to ask the receptionist whether she knew anything about a previous infestation.

She told me they had closed for a few days in the winter for a thorough cleaning because there had been complaints in the past, but since then they hadn’t seen a single roach. It would seem they had made a pretty good job of it.
