Famous scientists through the ages

The most famous scientists are more often than not, those individuals who made the most significant discoveries throughout human history, those discoveries that made the world what it is today. From the wheel to electricity to nuclear power; some of the most famous scientists are listed below:

Albert Einstein

In 1905, possibly the most well known scientist of all time made his iconic discovery that energy is equal to mass, multiplied by the speed of light squared, or as it is more commonly known, E = mc^2. Albert Einstein’s famous formula was important because it proved that mass and energy are simply different forms of the same thing, and that even a tiny amount of mass can be converted into a significant amount of energy. One important implication of this reality is that no object of any mass can possibly travel faster than the speed of light.

Edwin Hubble

Whilst Edwin Hubble is perhaps best known for having a telescope named after him, his most significant discovery was to prove that the universe is expanding. Furthermore, Edwin also realised that the further galaxies and other planetary objects are from us, the faster they are flying away from us.

William Buckland

in 1822, geologist William Buckland uncovered some giant animal teeth during an excavation in England. At the time the words to describe his finds simply didn’t exist, but in 1842 Richard Owen introduced the word “dinosaur” to describe several spectacular fossils representing creatures of a past era that were discovered across England.
